Sport-Club Freiburg e. V.
SC Freiburg is a widely respected professional German football club based in Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg. Universally known as "Breisgau-Brasilianer" (Breisgau Brazilians) for their attractive style of play, or simply "Die Breisgauer," the club plays its home matches at the modern Europa-Park Stadion.
Founded in 1904 through the union of two local sports clubs, Freiburg traditionally plays in red and white kits. For decades, the team operated in the lower tiers of German football before earning historic first-time promotion to the Bundesliga in 1993 under legendary, long-serving manager Volker Finke, who steered the club's identity for 16 years.
Freiburg is world-renowned for its sustainable business model, outstanding youth academy (Freiburger Fußballschule), and extraordinary managerial stability—exemplified by Christian Streich's iconic 12-year tenure. Under Streich, Freiburg achieved unprecedented success, reaching the 2022 DFB-Pokal Final and consistently securing qualification for European competitions, including deep runs in the UEFA Europa League.
Freiburg maintains traditional regional rivalries across Baden-Württemberg and the Southwest region, most notably against VfB Stuttgart in the Baden-Württemberg Derby and Karlsruher SC in the Baden Derby.
